Description

Clementoni has manufactured three large fine arts puzzles. One of them is Sacred and Profane Love, by Titian. The other one is The Annunciation, by Leonardo da Vinci. Finally, the third one is The Last Supper, also by Leonardo. All of them are now very rare and difficult to find.

There are different versions of this puzzle, but this one is the largest available. As it is common with most large puzzles, the pieces come in different bags. This way, it is possible to assemble the puzzle in sections. In the case of this painting, with so many dark tones and uniform colors, mixing the bags can be a real challenge.

The puzzle is like NEW, with all the pieces SEALED inside the original plastic bag. The box is in excellent condition, except for one tear in a corner of the lid, as you can see in the photographs. The leaflet and the poster are in excellent condition.

The most famous Last Supper

The representation of the scene of the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples, is common in religious art. Many artists have chosen that same scene, from Tintoretto to Luca Signorelli. However, the version by Leonardo da Vinci is the most important one. It is, in fact, one of the world’s most famous painting.

Leonardo painted this mural in the refectory of the convent of of Santa Maria delle Grazie, in Milan, at the end of the 15th century. Unfortunately, very little of the original painting remains today, despite many restoration attempts. Since the artist painted on a thin exterior wall, the effects of humidity were severe, and the paint didnt’ adhere properly to the wall. In fact, it began to deteriorate soon after Leonardo completed his work in 1498.

However, the painting went through so much damage, both intentional and unintentional, that it is a miracle we can even enjoy it today. They cut a doorway through the painting, and then bricked it up again. At the end of the 18th century, French troops used the refectory as an armory. Later, they also used it as a prison. The refectory was even struck by bombings during the II World War.

The puzzle is challenging, but it will make an exceptional piece of art hanging on a wall.

There are a lot of different puzzle versions of this painting. Ravensburger published in 2005 a 1000 piece edition of this puzzle.
