This is an old and rare puzzle that Ravensburger produced in 1972. The title is The Chase, by the French Rococo artist Jean-Baptiste Oudry, who is well known for his paintings of animals and game.
The work reproduced in the puzzle is a tapestry that came from the famous Gobelins Manufactory. The name of the artist appears in the image, in one of the rocks in the foreground: “Oudry 1.746”. The name of the weaver appears also at the bottom right corner: “AUDRAN”. It refers to Jean Audran. On the box by Ravensburger, the date is 1743, which is surely an error.
The puzzle is COMPLETE (2000 pieces). The pieces are in very good condition except for the pieces on one of the borders, as you can see in the photographs. The box is in very good condition, with some wear on the edges and tape remnants on the bottom.
In 1973 Ravensburger published a 1000 piece version of Stag Hunt, also by Jean-Baptiste Oudry Another puzzle of a hunt is Piatnik‘s 1000 piece version of the Stag Hunt of the Elector John Frederick of Saxony by Lucas Cranach the Younger.
