Description

This is an exceptionally rare puzzle under the brand Country House Treasures, although the real manufacturer was Ryco Originals. The title is Marco Polo sets sail from Venice.

It derives from a painting by the illuminator Johannes, and comes from a richly illuminated manuscript made around 1400 that forms the frontispiece to a copy of Marco Polo’s account of his travels. At the top left, the Piazza San Marco is recognizable from features which are still landmarks of Venice today.

The Marco Polo manuscript has been held by the Bodleian Library, Oxford from about 1603-4. The Bodleian Library, which opened on 8 November 1602, is one of the major research libraries of the world.

The puzzle is COMPLETE, with the pieces in excellent condition, as you can see in the photographs. The box is also in excellent condition, except for a split to one of the vertical corners.
