Description

This vintage puzzle was produced in the late 1960s by the American manufacturer Challenge. The title is Montmartre. There is no reference to the painter on the box, but the author of the original lithograph is Maurice Utrillo.

The puzzle is COMPLETE, as you can see in the photograph of the puzzle assembled. The pieces are in quite good condition, considering the age of the puzzle. Several pieces however underwent repairs, which mostly consisted of gluing curled-up knobs back onto their cardboard backing; some bent pieces, with particularly narrow bridges, were strengthened with glue to prevent them from breaking. The repairs are hardly visible in the assembled puzzle but are noticeable on closer inspection, as you can appreciate in the examples of the photographs. The box is in very good condition, albeit with some discoloration of the image on one side of the lid, and some dents and tape remnants on the base.

There are very few puzzles featuring work by Maurice Utrillo. In 1972 Nathan published a 1000 piece version of Le “Lapin Agile”.
