Description

This is an extraordinary puzzle by Schmidt. The title on the box is The Battle of Trafalgar, by Auguste Étienne François Mayer. The real title of the artwork is unknown, but the two titles under which it is best known are Combat Glorieux du Vaisseau le Bucentaure contre trois Vaisseaux Anglais and Scene of the Battle of Trafalgar. The artwork is one of six that Mayer painted in 1836 about the fierce fights of the ship Bucentaure of the French navy during the Battle of Trafalgar. You can admire the original painting at the Musée National de la Marine, in Paris.

The puzzle is like NEW, with the pieces still SEALED inside the original bag. The box is in very good condition, with some minor shelf wear and tape remnants.

There are several puzzles with paintings of this famous naval battle. Falcon manufactured an interesting 1000 piece puzzle of this battle by Thomas Whitcombe, and Pomegranate published a beautiful 1000 piece version by Joseph Mallord William Turner.
