This is a very interesting and rare puzzle by Angelini, which, interestingly, is a pharmaceutical Italian company. The title is Ritratto di Cavaliere, by Vittore Carpaccio. The box indicates wrongly that the artwork is at the Museo del Prado. However, the original painting is at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, in Madrid.
The puzzle must be from the 80’s, since in those years the logo of the company was the same that appears on the box. It is a special edition that was not produced for sale. On the lid you can read With Compliments, and on one side of the box it says È un omaggio per i Signori Medici, or It is a tribute to Doctors. At the same time, on the side of the box it appears the name Ferlatum®, with the registered trademark symbol. So we can assume it refers to the drug of the same name, which appeared in Italy for the first time. With all that information, we can assume that the company Angelini produced a limited number of puzzles to distribute among doctors in order to promote the drug Ferlatum®.
In any case, we can assess, without almost any doubt, that the puzzle itself came from the Clementoni factory, since the pieces have the same quality, texture, and their typical round corner pieces.
The puzzle is COMPLETE (500 pieces). The pieces are in excellent condition. The box is in good condition, except for a scuff on a corner, as you can see in the photographs.
In 2015 Ravensburger published a 1000 piece version of this puzzle.
