The Centraal Museum of the City of Utrecht commissioned this puzzle to commemorate The Siege of Castle Vredenburg in 1577. The original is by the Dutch genre painter Joost Cornelisz. Droochsloot. The Utrecht people besieged the castle to drive out the Spanish ruler in the 16th century. After it had been conquered, Trijntje van Leemput and some of her female friends demolished the castle for fear of history repeating itself. Trijntje is the woman with the axe over her shoulder in the bottom right part of the painting, and is celebrated as a heroine in the Netherlands.
The puzzle is NEW, with its original FACTORY SEAL.
There are not many puzzles with paintings by Droochsloot, but a beautiful example is the 1000 piece version of The Skaters produced by Ravensburger.
